Harry Potter: Draco the Cowardly Lion (Harry/Draco)
Draco the Cowardly Lion by Lomonaaeren
Sometimes, all I want to read is crackfic. However, it is often really difficult to find decent crackfic - i.e. fic that is purely written for humour's sake but also doesn't have to make characters horribly OOC in order to make the fic work.
And okay, this fic isn't totally in character, because Draco Malfoy gets sorted into Gryffindor. He is, however, an absolutely awful Gryffindor - hence the title - in some very, very funny ways.

The Wendell That Wasn't by opalish
A story on how Snape haunting Harry led to Harry's children getting their names. The fic is not anywhere near as serious as that makes it sound and has just about my favourite Ginny characterisation ever.

Ain't No Friend of Mine by dragon_charmer. (Draco/Harry)
There are lots of fics that have morphed either Harry or Draco into some sort of cute, fuzzy animal and had the other one pick it up and take care of it, with both becoming firmly attached over time. Most of those fics are just an excuse for fluff and to indulge in a love of cute things, which isn't necessarily bad. It's just not this fic.
No other story of this type that I have seen has actually managed to consider the true emotional fallout of such an unequal situation. The summary ("Draco has to face the truth of who he is. The truth has long hair and slobbers") may lead you to think that this fic is supposed to be funny, which it isn't - it's mostly angst - but it also works in a reasonable plotline, and okay, I will admit that the thought of Harry fighting crime with his faithful sidekick dog!Draco is pretty funny.

Homecoming by novembersnow. (Draco/Harry, with a side-helping of Albus/Scorpius)
Surprisingly enough, I didn't see the plot twist (sort of) at the end coming. It's the sort of thing you normally guess at the beginning of the fic, and then groan at being proved right later on, but the author quite skilfully managed to avoid that. (Well, okay, some of it I did see coming. Just not all.)
The fic is set post-Epilogue, with Harry ending up a guest lecturer at Hogwarts to avoid troubles at home. There's not a great deal of difference between this fic and others of the same type, where Harry and Draco meet up again at Hogwarts, but I would rate this one over all the others I've read simply because their relationship is still antagonistic, still full of misunderstandings and bull-headed stupidity, and because there is still a full complement of other characters to flesh the story out and make it more real/less contrived.
I've kept things deliberately vague in this rec since I don't want to spoil anything, so just - go read.

I am a sucker for anything that recognises the dark side of fairy stories, especially if it manages to get that dark thread running through the whole story. This fic also has some Draco/Harry and Ginny/Tom Riddle, but the particularly dark take on Harry and Ginny is what made the fic for me. A fairytale ending has never meant a necessarily happy ending.

In this fic, Dudley realises that the way his parents treat Harry is abusive, and the fic explores how he deals with it. Although it does have far more actual violence in the treatment of Harry than actually happens in canon, I really, really appreciated the thought that had gone into this fic. I liked that it mirrored some of the realities of abuse while avoiding a lot of the myths - although my one gripe is that the author did feel the need to add physical abuse to the emotional abuse and neglect Harry suffered, which seemed to disregard that emotional abuse and neglect are actually far more serious when it comes to the long-term effects they have on the victim. It's a minor point, however, and shouldn't detract from this well-written fic.

The Innocence of Wolves by Gatewaygirl. (Remus/Sirius)
I've read most of this author's other fics, and I have to say the quality of her writing improves immensely when she's not writing PWPs. Plot-driven fics are clearly her forte.
That said, this fic is very, very dark. It's a look at what might have happened had Snape actually been killed by Remus when they were both at school - how that starts a slippery slope that ... doesn't make the Marauders unrecognisable, and does, at the same time. It's only a few shades away from plausible, which makes it a very entertaining - if disturbing - piece of fiction.

Unfortunately, the title of this fic will always spoil it slightly for me, because it makes me associate Carol Vorderman and some rather cheesy music with what is actually a serious and well-written fic. It's a lovely look and both Luna and Harry and well worth reading more than once.
