In essence, the title says it all. This fic goes through what could have happened if the Vongola family we known and love hadn't found each other.
It's been quite a while since I first read this, when I bookmarked it labelled "Awesomeness" - and that still pretty much sums up my reaction to it. Go read!

| Titanic crossover by nymous_fic. (Dino/Hibari) |
Part 1 and part 2.
This fic, as its imaginative title says, is a crossover with Titanic. However, because this Reborn! crossed with Titanic, you can kiss goodbye to anything like sanity in the storyline of the fic.
This, plus the fact that it is Dino and Hibari and so far as I am concerned the only way that pairing works is with a lot of comedic bloodshed, makes the whole fic freaking hilarious.
Plus there's Mukuro being a perv, and the "Heart of the Pineapple" (I shit you not). And random cameos from other Reborn! characters in the most fantastically amusing places. In short, this fic is a truly inspired piece of comedy and you should read it ASAP.

This fic also includes the awesomeness of Squalo, which automatically makes it rank higher than it would otherwise, because Squalo's loud freakishness is freaking hilarious. Especially in this context. Which is mostly Xanxus in pigtail-pulling mode.
Okay, so the fic isn't completely 100% in character. It's not too far off for what it is, though, and it makes a very funny and very entertaining read.

| The Tsuna Effect by half_sleeping. (Tsuna/Xanxus) |
This was the first decent Reborn! fic I ever read, which has now biased me horribly towards Xanxus/Tsuna, despite the weird abusiveness of it. This remains, however, one of the best Reborn! fics I've read, and certainly one of the best Xanxus/Tsuna. It also has a sequel, The After Effect, although I'm only reccing the original.
Plus the Tsuna Effect is canon. Can't forget that.

| Hell: Remix by dual_avi. (Gokudera/Tsuna) |
This links to the first part of a two-part fic. There's a link to the second part at the bottom.
This fic is wholly AU - the summary the author gives is "In which Gokudera is a demon, and Tsuna is fail fail fail", which is a particularly accurate description, really. Although it doesn't really cover the sheer funniness of this fic - Gokudera as a demon doesn't really change him much, except that there's no reason for (as much of) the Tenth!love he displays in canon. Which doesn't actually change their interaction much, given that a lot of what we see of Gokudera in canon is him trying to blow up people who offer any sort of potential insult to Tsuna.
Anyway. This fic reminded me a lot of the early part of Reborn!, with its particular style of irreverence and sheer crack-headedness - and that makes it a very, very entertaining read.
(The one irritating bit is the random bit of fanart stuck in the middle of the story. Which is nice, but makes it quite hard to stay in the flow of the story.)

I'm surprised this type of fic isn't more common in fandom than it currently is. I mean, it's one of those fics which will instantly become a fandom cliche, but is no less funny as a result - and this one is particularly funny, purely because of Gokudera being Gokudera.

I have no idea what this is a crossover with, and it really doesn't matter because anyone who's ever read a fairy tale will understand what's going on. And to be honest, although this is a Gokudera/Tsuna fic and the way it's written that really can't be removed, Gokudera is dedicated enough without any romantic relationship canonically that it would be very easy to have written this as gen, too.
What I loved about this was the depth of sacrifice that Gokudera makes for Tsuna. Gokudera is easily my favourite character in Reborn! for oh-so-many reasons, but his devotion is pretty high on the list. This fic takes that into quite an unusual situation and runs with it in a tooth-achingly angsty way.
